David Ward and Jeanette Sunderland on Birk Hill. THANK YOU to local residents who helped to keep Birk Hill as public space.

Used by many families and local groups, last year local residents found to their horror Council workers putting up fences on Birk Hill to enclose the area. After getting in touch with local Councillor David Ward the work was stopped whilst Council Officers met with local residents to discuss the plans. It became clear that the Council wanted to enclose the land for grazing, denying access to the the hill which had always been open to the public.

The plan to fence off the land has been scrapped. Residents and the Liberal Democrats want to protect the land to stop this happening again. One of the ways that you can help is by looking through your photographs and seeing if you have any pictures of people using the land for recreational purposes such as family outings, events, etc. If you have any please can you give Councillor Jeanette Sunderland a ring on 611607.
