Schools praised for GCSE results

1.01.44pm GMT Tue 26th Jan 2010

Cllr David Ward has praised schools for their in the recent GCSE results.

He said,

" The recent set of GCSE results include some very impressive performances by some of our schools.

Without statistics on the number of pupils receiving free school meals and with special educational needs, it is very difficult to determine the degree of 'success' school-by-school.

The contextual value added (CVA) score for each school does provide a measure of the success achieved by a school in terms of the progress that is made by its pupils.

I believe that special praise should go to schools such as Carlton Bolling College and Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College, which regularly outpace 'successful' schools such as Ilkley and Bingley Grammar in terms of CVA.

The performance of Laisterdyke in particular is quite staggering with a set of results that show the school has added more value to its pupils' performance than almost any other school in the region.

We must welcome the overall improvement that the results show - but there is still much further to go. "
